Can we find hope 

In the gloom of the night 

And live long enough 

Long enough to see 

The harmony of the dawn 

 

Can we reconcile ourselves 

With the center of thought 

And join with the others 

The others who also desire to see 

The calm of the daylight 

 

Can you feel the pain 

Of a child of theirs 

And can they feel the pain 

The pain of our mothers' tears 

To reconcile at daybreak 

 

Can we find common ground

Overwhelm the left and the right 

And allow the sun 

The sun to rise in the morning 

To see the coming of a new day 

 

Can we lay aside our differences 

Acknowledge each other 

And understand each other's right 

The right to live in peace 

To live in the glory of the sunrise
